Psst...don't breathe a word but this is what I've made my Dutch, tea-drinking brother-in-law for his birthday. 

The pattern came from the Victoria and Albert Museum:  http://www.vam.ac.uk/images/image/13089-popup.html

The instructions are easy to follow until you get to the flower construction.  It took quite a while to discover that the loops are woven through the crochet flower base, but really you could form the loops by sewing them just as easily.
