I think it's asking you to inc 8 sts, but it's hard to tell without context (what pattern).

i'm knitting mittens and i'm shaping the thumb gusset at this point
i've been increasing 2 stitches every other row for a while, and i'm confused as to why it would have me suddenly inc 8 stitches?

What's the pattern name or can you post more of the the pattern?  It doesn't make sense without more context.  You are allowed to quote portions of a pattern to get help.

The 'each' could be a typo (or a mis-translation), or something's missing after the word 'each'. OTOH I've seen mittens where you just increase all the 8 or 10 or whatever stitches at once for the base of the thumb. It looks a little funny when it's not on, but it actually fits pretty nicely.

I don't think it means to inc 8 sts, you knit 8 after the incs. Contact the pattern designer and ask what it meant or left out of that row. It's a typo and should probaly read `inc 1 st in each of the next X sts' or each is wrong.

thanks guys, i figured it out. i think it was a misprint, because only increasing 1 stitches makes the correct number of stitches in the end

The pattern is letting you know that you knit 3 then p1 then p3, 3 times you re-knit anything in the () as many time as it say to do. after you p1 k2 you will inc in the next stitch knitting front to back.

There was a typo though, it said "Inc 1 st in each of next st" which can make you go HUH...?

It meant inc 1 st, the `each of' shouldnta been there.
