So I went to the Giant Eagle with the basic concept of this skirt in mind, fully intending to disregard the wisdom of, oh, the entire internets and attempt to dye a cotton laundry bag with Koolaid. Luckily, in the laundry section my attention strayed to...ironing board covers. Blue, cheap, and Omg Sparkly! Score. Overall, I spent darn near $15 bucks.
2 ironing board covers at $4.50: $9
2 containers of sprinkles/sugar at $1.99: $3.98
1 bag of candy necklaces: $1.79
To make the skirt, I ripped out the seam connecting the elastic to the actual cover:
And of course, removed the foam pad inside. Tada, sparkly blue fabric pieces:
To construct the skirt itself, I sewed the two ironing board covers together end to end, cut a piece off of the top lengthwise to make a waistband, andchopped off the pointy bits at the end of each piece. Then I gathered the resulting rectangular piece, put on the waistband, and sewed up the side. Just a basic gathered skirt, really.
Then the fun part. I laid stencils on the skirt, spread fabric glue on, and sprinkled on the sprinkles!
I then made a straight freehand line with the glue and added the pink sugar. The result:
I also dipped the button in glue and sprinkles (yes, the zipper is visible on purpose!):

But what to do with the leftover scraps of fabric and the candy necklaces I didn't use? Accessories, of course! A slouchy little purse with a giant freaking bow:

Thanks for looking...the skirt is actually one of my favorite things that I've made, ever. I need to figure out how to best seal the sprinkles so I can wear it out at least once.
