Breast Cancer Awareness Stitchalong

I posted something in the Discussions and Questions forum asking if anyone was going to do any Breast Cancer Awareness Stitching this month in support of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and kittykill suggested a Stitchalong!

Yay stitchalongs! (Yes I'm lame.)

So I'm posting this in hopes that others join in.  Maybe we can find an organization that might be interested in having them to display or something else?  Not sure.  I'm new at this.

Now that I've said all that...I KNOW WHAT I'M STITCHING!  At least the subject anyway.  Now to find some material, finalize the layout, transfer patter, get thread and STITCH.

This is my first post, so if I get anything wrong, please be gentle with me

I really wanted to join in this stitchalong but couldn't find any patterns that did it for me, so I have just uploaded a Pink Ribbon pattern to my website, inspired by a lovely angel I saw in an online silent auction.

littlemojo - Don't be discouraged by the lack of great patterns.  First off, LuluB has posted a preview of a pattern she'll be posting on CraftStylish tomorrow here. It's very pretty! --->> http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=271611.0.

Secondly, if you can't find something...make it up!  It's one of the things I'm really liking about embroidery!  That it's pretty darn easy to come up with something if you can't find exactly what you're looking for!  To come up with what I'm stitching I did a search for web pages and images of "Breast Cancer Awareness" and "Breast Cancer."  I looked through pages and pages of images, sketched a couple of ideas, saved a couple of images and wrote down a bunch of keywords. From there I let it stew and came up with a couple of ideas.  I'm still in the sketching phase, but hopefully I'll come up with something fairly concrete soon so I can start stitching!

More than anything though, I'm having fun with it!  You should too!

Oh, no, I wasn't discouraged, quite the opposite in fact. The pattern I linked to yesterday was my response to not finding anything

I'm almost ready to start.  I FINALLY finished the other piece I was working on (for a swap) and now I'm ready to finalize the design so I can start stitching.  Anyone else?

I really like it!  That's awesome! 

I took on an ambitious project myself, and so I'm about 70% done but it feels like 30%!!  I LOVE the design I came up with, but if I were to do this again (I might) I would make some serious changes to my colors and how I'm actually executing it.  I will definitely be done before the week is out, it's just taking forever.

I know it's late but I finally finished my piece and I wanted to post it.  After doing a lot of research and looking for pictures for inspiration I decided to concentrate on what a woman can do to help herself, thus the self exam pics.

All other elements were created by myself and the layout/design/coloring was my own.  I used split, back, whipped back, long/short, stem and satin stitches.  I used a common color on the swirls to tie it all together, but graduated the coloring within them from dark to light, symbolizing the use knowledge and power.  The dragonfly was added as a symbol of strength and self awareness. It was stitched on a cotton/poly blend and embellished with white embroidered felt.

The pictures used here are crap but I hope to take these down and replace them with some better pictures sometime soon. I have no idea what I want to do with it yet. I was thinking about putting it on a canvas and seeing if a Dr's office might be interested in displaying it...but for now I haven't a clue.

 I loved using my creativity to express myself.  This is something I really enjoy about embroidery.  This is my second piece (ambitious) and therefore the stitches are far from imperfect if you are looking closely.  Luckily (another thing I like about embroidery) the medium is very forgiving from far away.  I'm very happy with the overall look of this piece.

I recently finished this for a friend whose mom passed away from breast cancer.  F Cancer is cross stitched and then I added trinkets belonging his late mother to the shadow box. The arrangement needs work but I could tell by the tears that he liked it.

i know this is an old thread - i stumbled upon it looking for something specific...

but this IS a GREAT sympathy card/gift given the situation it was made for!

what a wonderful, healing sentiment!
in some circumstances, such a thing could mean the difference between going through grief in healthy manner as opposed to dis-functionally/unhealthily/chronically.

anger is part of the process but it's hard to be angry sometimes at the departed or at GOD...but cancer is a good target of those feelings!
