Some of my friends are about to graduate from university soon. Since they're all leaving then to start their teaching career I thought it would be a good idea to give them something nice to take with them. I haven't had any good idea yet (as at the moment I'm working on my final thesis that is due in a few weeks), so if you have any idea, please let me know! Thanks!

Oh I forgot: I want to give them the same gifts and I want to craft them :-)

I'll swap for postcards, badges, maps or brochures from everywhere in the US! I'm an English teacher and always happy about authentic material for my classroom.

in Germany all school-children get a large sugar-cone for their first day of school. When my sister became a teacher I made a smaller one for her and filled it with adult-and teacher-items like: small bottle of liquor, chips (she likes salty things more than sweets), a red pencil is essential for a teacher, ear-plugs, an apple, food-container for school-snack ...

In case you don't know sugar-cones here is a link:

I am pretty sure you will have no problem to make one yourself.

Thanks for posting your idea! I'm actually from Germany so I know that tradition. I'll think about it. Just need to think about good stuff to fill the cone with.
