The 1950s Just Got Sweeter.

So I had this vision for this challenge... of a 1950s wedding dress... made out of white cupcake liners...

Couldn't find what at my grocery story though, only pastel... So I made a few tweaks to my design plan...




p.s. my camera did a disappearing act during this challenge... so sorry about the cell phone pics.

To make this I took some hideous pink/creamy white fabric I had lying around and made a skirt out of it...



I proceeded to glue the half-folded cupcake liners on it.

Then I worked on the top (that I would later connect - using needle thread... straws and superglue)

The first layer is actually on top of paper.... then the rest were glued on... It's nearly backless.... I wanted it a lot more form fitted... so that's why I went this route... and instead of being folded in half, they're mainly flat...


That's pink in the back of the top...


I also wound up adding "buttons" made of twizzlers... to the front to give it a tuxedo-ish look...

I wound up shortening the dress from the original concept... making it more of a birthday dress... that I envision a girl in the 50s would've liked....

The "boning" is twizzlers.

I had made a necklace out of straws and twizzler juice, but I made that first thing... and by the time I got done with the dress buggies....

Great idea!  I actually like the pastel since it makes it more cupcake-like!  Would love to see more pics with a better camera... (hint, hint)

Wow! If you can borrow a camera from someone to get some better pics, I, for one, would be psyched to see 'em. You can hit the "Modify" button on your post to replace the pics if you get around to it.

At the risk of quibbling, you're using fabric that isn't from the store as part of the dress, correct?  Very creative idea tho!

Apologies, I didn't see this part: "You can use whatever extra craft materials (fabric, glue, paint, etc) you want but the focal point of the project should be what you buy at the supermarket."
