My mom recently gave me her button collection, attained over many years of sewing and mending. There are hundreds of buttons, some in sets and some entirely unique -- after sorting by size, material, beauty and oddness, it fills several jam jars occupying nearly an entire shelf above my desk. There's something for every project in there, and each button is pretty cool.  But, it's also so special that I want to be sure I put these buttons to the best use possible, which is sometimes difficult given the variety of buttons and the fact that many of the buttons are one of a kind.

I was browsing the metal buttons yesterday and got the idea for this cuff. It's about 2 inches wide and contains 30 buttons, 5 beads and a few swarovski crystals: almost the entire stash of this type of odd gold-coloured button and basically anything else I could find that would match. I secured each button individually and tied it in to several others using black embroidery thread. It's sturdy! The base of the bracelet is some 1.5" webbing I had kicking around, to which I machine-sewed some Velcro.

here are some fancy angled shots:

and a shot of it on my wrist:

I tried to disguise the closure, and I think it worked! Unless you know where to look, it's pretty difficult to find.

I love how it turned out. It's the perfect way to showcase my mom's most sparkly and unique buttons -- it's over the top and gigantic, but I can't wait to wear it out on the town.

What do you think? Any suggestions for variations?

LOVE IT!  I love the gold, some are older than others and I think that adds to the novelty.  It is interesting to think that each one has it's own story.

My Mom received one as a gift from a friend (black and silver beads BUTTONS) a few years ago and she paid $40 at a craft fair!  I too have a huge stash of my Grandma's buttons and I need to do something creative with them.  You have just inspired me!

Truly fascinating! I think I would get lost in my own little world just staring at it and examining it every time I wore it somewhere! How classy would an all white/pearl bracelet look?!

Wow, Thanks, beadingjunkee! I'm not a huge fan of button jewellery either, to be honest -- usually it's just too cute, and since I'm in my late 20s, I think my cute years are over Wink So glad to hear this bracelet has its own style.

Thanks ellenmarie! Yeah, there's definitely a lot going on Smiley Ooh, an all-white/pearl bracelet would be breathtaking! That's the one area my mom's collection is lacking in: white. Hopefully someone else with an awesome button collection will pop in and get inspired!
