I really like Alex's hat here. http://dcfans.tv/gallery/image.php?pic=18&show=wowp&ep=12
How would I make that? Is that crocheted? What stitch do you think it is?

it is definitely crocheted, but i couldnt tell you the stitch...browse some websites that provide patterns, and see if you can find something close

(i love the hat and the show...)

My niece emailed me this pic, she wants the hat made out of cotton ease in gray.  Have I taught this kid or what?  I tried making a star motif and mesh in between, but it didn't look right.  Disney should have a craft page for patterns from their shows, but it is Disney so they would probably charge and arm and a leg.

the offer more for free than you would assume

my assumption is that they had someone who created the pattern and made the hat for her head (we all know how different things can fit even from a pattern)

I've seen something like this, but of course I don't remember where...
I believe it's done like granny squares, where the star is the center of a "flower" with chained petals, and the motifs are joined through the chained petals. So if the petals were a chain of 20, you'd ch10, join to the first motif, ch10... See what I mean? It was a scarf or wrap pattern I'm thinking of, If I can find it again I'll post it.

Found it - it's "Vintage Lace Scarf" on pg 119 of Sensual Crochet by Amy Swenson. VERY similar motif.

Whoa!  Disney offers free crochet patterns?

One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its black gates are guarded by more than just orcs. There is evil there that does not sleep. The great eye is ever watchful. It is a barren wasteland, riddled with fire, ash, and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume.......
