I am a sucker for anything vintage, and I fell in love with this pattern the moment I laid eyes on it. I bought the book, Hiawatha Household Crochet Book No. 14 (c)1945, on ebay, specifically for another pattern that I had found free online. I also liked this one, from the same book, so I figured that if I liked two, I might like the rest! I was right - out of the entire book, there is only one pattern that I didn't care about one way or the other.

But this is the one that just had to be made!

So I finally made it... 11" x 24", 53 individual motifs.

I love it, and as someone who hates crocheting squares and then combining them you have my admiration

Nicely done!  And thanks for the links to the other two; love the one called "Venetian" with its square center and one-half-plus round corners and saved the pattern to try in the near future -- hard to believe it's only seven rounds!

I'm in awe, that's beautiful!  I like making motifs but I can't stand sewing them together.

Same here!  THey usually end up lying around for months because I can't be bothered to finish them off.

This is beautiful, did it take a long time?  It looks like it must have taken months.

Thank you. =)

You're welcome. =) I've made that one, too. It took a few tries for me to wrap my mind around the pattern and have it come out without being wonky. The methods of crochet in that book are slightly different than I am used to. It's hard to describe...

These motifs get joined together as you crochet, so there was no sewing at the end.

It took about a month of off and on crocheting. It really wasn't too bad. I'd do a square or two a day. The motifs themselves are really quick - only 4 short rounds.
