Hey guys,

You may or may not have noticed but the shop widget has been taken down.  There's still an ad in that space (as there has been since the redesign in 2007) but the widget got nixed for now.  There were a number of reasons, but your feedback was definitely included in the decision.

Also I wanted to let you know that I, personally, have seen a few icky roll-over ads today and I'm reporting them to our team as I see them. Expanding ads are gross! Report them here if you see them!

Thank you!  Love you guys!  Cheesy  *hugs*

Looking to de-stash cross stitch magazines, particularly Cross Stitch Gold or New Stitches?  Please drop me a line!  I'd love to swap or buy some missing from my library!

I clicked on an ad for a polymer clay website that I had never seen before here on Friday.  It looked like a help site more than a sales site. (tutorials, videos, galleries, etc) Immediately upon clicking it, it said I didn't have Java 'X' (can't remember what, I didn't care, and wasn't about to get it just for one dinky website.... Considering I know I have the latest Java that anyone needs.) I tried to leave to go somewhere else, and my computer started serious dramatics.  Detected a million different intrusions, countless pages started to open.  I restarted my computer 3 different times and eventually ended up taking it to the shop by afternoon.  I just picked it up yesterday and everything had to be wiped.  He said it was bad, and very recent.  I haven't seen this ad since I've been back (and as I said, I have never seen it before at all, and I'm pretty active here...), but I will think twice about clicking any ad again.

I do hope I don't have anyone jump on me for not 'being a supporter'.  It did happen here, I promise.  I know it would be helpful if I could remember even the name of the site, but basically as soon as I was in, it was all over for my computer.  All I can say I've visited  polymer clay express, and polymer clay central on other occasions, even before I ever found craftster, and I think they may advertise here too.  It was not either of their sites.  This was a site that had videos as soon as you entered the main page.

Do you remember where the ad was on the page or what size it was?

I don't think anyone would jump on you for not being a supporter.  Any website or link on the internet can be compromised by a virus.  We'd definitely like to figure out which website/ad/link it was, though!

Sorry I didn't realize there was responses to this earlier.  It was on the right side of the screen.  It was a larger picture ad.  The background was a picture of items that there were tutorials for (they were quite intricate polymer clay pieces, exactly what they were I cant remember) and the main thing I remember it saying was video tutorials.  I clicked on it to check it out, and I could see the actual website, but a popup prevented me from doing anything else.  It said I needed Java 6.  I hadn't clicked on a video, that was immediately upon entering the site.  The popup seemed kind of funny to me, and I thought I had the latest Java, so I decided I didn't need to see anything in there all that bad (especially since I'm not used to a website demanding I download something right when I enter.  Maybe if I had clicked on a video it wouldn't have seemed so suspicious.)  I clicked x to close the window and I had tons of popups everywhere.  Too many to even close.  I restarted my computer and the popups just continued and I just closed everything down and took it into the shop.  I hope that can be of some help.  I haven't seen this ad since my computer has been back, and I had never seen it before.

So happy to see that this thread has been idle for awhile!! Smiley  Just wanted to reply with some very exciting news re: ads.

We have now implemented the ability for Fanatic Friends of Craftsters to disable ads on the site entirely.  While, of course, we still appreciate all of the support we get via our ad programs, we listened to your requests for this new feature!  Please read and discuss the new feature here Smiley http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=401667.0

Is anyone else getting the Tide roll-over ads? They are kind of driving me bonkers. You roll over and a video automatically starts playing. I think there is also one on the right navigation.
