I love Halloween, but I don't like buying items I can't use year round.  So with some vintage goods I have around the house, along with a can of chalkboard paint, I created Halloween appropriate decor items that still have functionality even when the ghosts and goblins leave!

I painted old books and a gaudy planter to create a scary canvas for chalked messages and lines.  My typewriter holds a scary message, which is made out of an old page from a psychiatry book.

What repurposing ideas are you using around the house this Halloween?  I'd love to hear and see pictures!

I was in Eureka Springs, Arkansas recently and they had these big displays of painted pumpkins and gourds mixed with flowers all over. Anyway we noticed they were also full of hedge apples that had been spray painted bright colors. I remember as a kid having zillions of them in my yard, and other than repelling spiders, I didn't know what else you could do with them. Well, there you go. You could arrange a bunch of them in any kind of bowl or platter.

That's a great idea!  You could even paint them with chalkboard paint and draw scary faces on them Smiley

The planters is especially cool. that could apply to almost any holiday - just give it a new coat of paint.
Thanks!

Thanks CostumeGoddess!  I was hoping to use the planter year-round.  I was thinking of exchanging pumpkins for red and silver fabric balls for Christmas....and perhaps just moss during the non-holidays.  The possibilities are endless Wink
