i'm going to be a pirate this year, and i can't figure out how to make the shirt i'll wear under my corset. it'll be pretty similar to the red shirt on the left here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v16/GurlWithGuitar/costumes/073.jpg except my sleeves will only be elbow length. i get the general idea of how to make it (the shirt's a big rectangle, and the sleeves are skinnier rectangles), but i don't know how wide they need to be, or exactly how to attach them together. i've googled this to death, but nothing i've found gives me any idea of how big everything needs to be if i want it as poofy as the picture. help?

thanks for looking those up, but none of those are really what i'm looking for. i want a shirt where the top of it goes around my shoulders and has elastic around it.

Ok sorry!  I can't see the pic you posted.  Smiley

You could try this one using an elastic in place of the drawstring:

oooh thank you! the main problem i was having was how big to make everything, and this has measurements! awesome! all i need now is to find a good pattern for my skirt, buy the rest of what i need for the corset, and put it all together!

Ooh, I can vouch for that Red Dawn tutorial.  I used it last year and it worked like a charm.  I didn't even make a casing for my elastic, I just stretched it and sewed it directly to the neck and the sleeves, and it was perfect!
