I've just started the planning for my wedding next July and thought I'd start with the invitations.  After much frustration I've finally come up with a basic design that I like but I'm not sure exactly what to go with.

Our colors are chocolate and cream and we're going for a simple modern look.  I really like the monogram box thing but I'm having trouble deciding what the layout for the rest of the invitation should be.  The color of the backing paper and text are actually closer to the brown of the ribbon in #3 and not black as it looks like.

Your thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.  I know it's tough to get the whole idea with the lovely identity protection I have implemented but do your best!

I got the basic idea from weddingpaperdivas.  They have some fabulous invitations, take a look if you're stuck!

Nice.  I like the first and the last best.  Can't decide if I like the ribbon... Maybe it doesn't even need it.

I love the look of the one with the ribbon, it's very rich (in color) and almost edible.

Number three is the best in my opinion, the second one is second-best. Congratulations, by the way!

i think the ribbon is a little too busy... number two is my favorite. i like that the text is on the left and the monogram is on the right (which is GORGEOUS, btw!) it looks more balanced that way.

I love the ribbon. However, it might be a tad too wide. Perhaps a slightly narrower one? Or you could smoosh the text a little more the left or perhaps a combo of the two.

As a second vote I like the first one:)

If you moved all your wording to the left, so it is alongside the ribbon, it will look better-have you thought about a paper ribbon instead of satin? You could use the same paper as the background but cut it in a strip to go down the page-maybe even texturize the paper first. yes, I think texture may do the trick.

Oh that first one looks great! I think the ribbon doesn't quite look right with the border, right? Like busies it up a bit too much?

I like the third the best.  I agree that a thinner ribbon might be better.  I really like the right-alignment, though.

i just looked at it again and i have an idea you haven't tried yet but might work well. what about taking the ribbon one, and then also doing a ribbon horizontally at the top so the square sits on top of the ribbon OR somehow running the ribbon so where the two ribbons meet is where the little square sits on top. just some more ideas for ya.

Love the colors! I definitely prefer the text left justified. I'd like to see one with a narrower ribbon and the text left aligned as someone suggested earlier. Congrats!

After much deliberation, I like the second one the best. It is very simple, add the simplicity is what makes it classy, so I really don't like the ribbon. But overall, I think the design is simply STUNNING. It makes it feel like a rather fancy affair!

Ok, so here's my input. I love the color scheme you chose. Now for the invites... I love the layouts you chose with the monogram. As is, I must say that I agree with those who suggested a thinner ribbon and that 3 is best. As others have said, it might also look good with a paper ribbon instead of satin.

i just looked at it again and i have an idea you haven't tried yet but might work well. what about taking the ribbon one, and then also doing a ribbon horizontally at the top so the square sits on top of the ribbon
I was also totally thinking that a horizontal ribbon might look great as well, and saw it was a suggestion already!! I like to visualize things before I suggest them, so I quickly tried it in paint, and I still like the idea. How I like it best is with option 2 and a narrow ribbon going through the middle of the monogram box (with everything else placed as is). Wow, this is lengthy, sorry!! Just wanted to share my input  Grin

I was thinking about this while I was shopping... I want to add more color or texture. But since this is a wedding... someone had said a textured paper ribbon. How about a gold ribbon?

I also really like that idea of the little box on top of the ribbon. Or you could make a little slice on either side and run the ribbon behind the monogram box.

Or a little gold edge on the paper?

Definitely rocking the ribbon. The other two feel like they're missing something, sort of empty. The brown of the ribbon is so... chocolatey and edible. Love it.

I like the ribbon one, but I'll second the ideas of going a tad thinner or maybe using paper ribbon.

I really like all three. They are very unlike any wedding invitations I have seen in "real life".

Just a little grammatical thing....the year written out should be "two thousand nine" and not "two thousand AND nine"....am I correct?

Two or three.  With the idea that the ribbon should be different in some way.  I like the concept, but not the outcome as it lays.

Good luck!  Love the colors!

I am in the minority, but I really like #2 best.  It is much more balanced.  If you go with #3, I think the ribbon should be narrower.  Smiley

For me, number three.

I think the ribbon balances the text & monogram.

Thanks everyone for your fabulous ideas.  I was also leaning towards #3 but I also agree that it still isn't just right.  When classes settle down a bit I'm going to put together a few of the ideas that were suggested and see what I think.

I never even thought of a horizontal ribbon so thank you so much for that suggestion.  I'm also going to review the wording and make sure it is in fact grammatically correct.  That's why I come here, wonderful people, great ideas and many sets of eyes to catch potential mistakes!

Just so you know, the ribbon was originally the boys idea... he wanted some credit in the process!

Keep it up with the fabulous ideas and I'll keep you posted as to how the modifications go!
