This is a great idea.  I like the idea of cutting one continuous strip, rather than having to attach different strips together.

Wow that's the nicest rug like that I've seen.

I came across the t-shirt yarn knit rugs a while back when I started wanting to knit a rug for my new place but was a little turned off because a lot of them looked a little too homemade but yours is nice. It looks like your fabric strips must've been really even. Nicely done.

I Love it!  Can you tell me about how many twin sheets you ended up using?  I'm just curious.  Thanks, and great job!

Thanks, everyone!  I appreciate the nice comments.

Shelleyj3, I used one entire double sheet, fitted, but of course I cut out the elasticized bits.

Thanks!  I used HUGE needles... they say 35 on the end, but I don't know what kind of measurement that is.  Here is a picture of them, though, with cat for scale:

i've been wanting to make a bath mat FOREVER because ours would get all dirty and i couldn't wash it because it had that non-skid stuff attatched to the bottom (a cheap wal-mart bath mat!!) so i was looking for one that i could just throw in the washer and drier- THIS IS "THE ONE"!!! and i love the idea of hoarding all the sheets at the thrift store!!! ECONOMICAL AND RECYCLING!!!

oooh.  now i need to make one!
i've seen them out of t-shirts, and like another poster said, they just kinda look too homemade.  but yours looks spectacular.  i've also seen rugs made out of muslin, which looked nice, but i like the idea of recycling bedsheets.
