OH MAI LAWD, it's a stargate!

I have a friend who's nuts about Stargate. So for her birthday, she's getting one.

The hole in the middle of the gate is 24cm in diameter if I remember correctly.

There will be better pics on the morrow.

my boss would love that! I embroidered a stargate to put on a bag we made for an auction at a convention in london that she was at earlier this year and the symbols were a total pain to do, I am very impressed!

Wow!  I had no idea what to expect when opening up this string and have to admit that I still don't know what stargate is, but it's an impressive bit of knitting!

That's amazing.  How long did it take?  And I'm assuming you created the pattern yourself?...

Hai all. Sorry, I haven't been on here in a while.

my boss would love that! I embroidered a stargate to put on a bag we made for an auction at a convention in london that she was at earlier this year and the symbols were a total pain to do, I am very impressed!
Gah! Those symbols were indeed the biggest ever pain in the arse! And I'm not too good at dividing it into even segments so some had too much room and some had nowhere near enough. I'm surprised I didn't use it as a frisbee.
I'm impressed that you stitched it up too, I'd like to have a look-see if you caqn find a picture. I saw a crochet (Maybe, could have been knitted) Stargate bag on Ravelry, but I don't think that was you.

@fatewineroses: I'm proud of you. I didn't know anything about Stargate when I started it. And I must admit, I've still only watched one episode of the show.
I thought you meant you knew what it would be from the title when I first read your post.

@sonjabegonia: Thanks. I'm glad someone has indoctrinated you with Stargate knowledge.
That's amazing.  How long did it take?  And I'm assuming you created the pattern yourself?...
Forever!! Actually about a month, but I was working on 2 other projects at the same time. The thing that took the most time was the symbols. They were so finicky and I got frustrated with pretty easily.
The gate itself was simple, About 200 stitches, then decrease 8 times every second row for maybe 10-15 rows (I can't remember exact numbers) Then 1 row reversed stocking (This ridge helps it to fold at the inside) a few rows plain, another reversed stocking ridge. Then increase 8 times on every second row until
you get to your original amount of stitches. There are some colour changes in there too.
I failed at not changing colour for the dark grey ring around the outside, so I knitted a long strip with a short row in it every few rows (To make it a ring) and sewed that onto it.
The embroidery was the bit that took AAAAAGES.

@Everyone else: I'm glad you like it. I know, I can't fit through it either. But maybe a miniature race from some other galaxy could. Or a crocheted Jack O'Neill doll could.

That is AMAZING!!   Shocked

My husband and I are big Stargate fans (I got him hooked).  I'd better not show him this thread - he'll insist that I knit him a gate.

Y'know, a Goa'uld symbiote could probably fit through that gate... (uh oh...)  Tongue
