Here's another rice bag tote.  I made it from an empty 50lb bag Super Lucky Elephant rice that I got from Costco.  We've gotten through have the bag and it's been in the pantry maybe 6 months, I put the rest into a big resealable container because I wanted to turn it into a grocery bag.

Maui County has passed legislation banning plastic bags, but it won't go into effect until 2011.  However, the little town where I do most of my grocery shopping already banned plastic bags well before the legislation!  Now I won't get scolded at the health food store for forgetting my reuseable bag, assuming I don't forget it that is.

Oooh I've never seen a reuseable bag made from a rice sack. That's so clever and the material is perfect! Cheesy

Super easy, I literally just sewed a rectangle open on top and added some gussets.  If you don't think you can make it through 50 lbs of rice, ask around at local restaurants - they just throw theirs away!

I`m jealous! not really, i love it, what i am jealous of is the fact that i can`t get hold of those sort of bags over here in the UK. I`d love a coffee bag as well, lol.

What a great idea...I have a trader joes bag made from the same type of plastic that is really durable and I found myself using all the time..I put some grommets in the bottom so water and sand can drain out and I use it all the time for the kids toys..going to the beach...everything.  I will have to start searching for rice bags now.

This really is great.  Quick question though, what size/type of needle did you use to sew the bag?  Thanks!
