There is a place on the Etsy board where you can post your milestones, but not one for us non-etsy sellers. I just wanted to share that I got my first order from my website today!

Congratulations! Now here's a few questions for you:

Did you try to ask the person how they found you (if you didn't already know)?

And once the sale is complete, are you:
Going to ask if you could put them on your mailing list (even if you don't have one now, you need to start collecting names right away), and
Ask them to write a few quotable words about their shopping experience and product they receive?

A self-employed slug's work is never done!

Well, I know how she found me, we're both active in the animal welfare community in our area, so I have seen her at pet store protests and on the online forum, and I have just recently bought Petlane products from her. Those are some great tips for after-the-sale!

Nice one. I've had 2 orders off my website, but both from fairly close friends (I went to 6th Form College with them) My next milestone will be when someone I don't know buys something - I know I will be grinning all day when that happens  Cheesy

Craftychef, that sounds like something my mom would like. She likes a "wallet on a string"  Cheesy

First sale is signed, sealed, delivered! And, when my customer came to pick up her purchase, I was doing my volunteer work, and my fellow volunteer wanted a bracelet, too. She liked it so much she just called to order a custom one for her daughter! Woo-hoo! I read on a blog that it's a good idea to carry some of your products with you, because you can make sales on the fly, and I definitely agree with that.

Some folks around here have sold the earrings right out of their ears!

Wallet on a string - good one! Mostly I've been carrying a tiny card wallet. I don't carry cash or anything anymore, just throw it in a pocket and I'm good to go!

Uh... someone just got a tattoo of a plush cat he bought from me! *faint!*  I think that's a pretty hefty milestone!  Sure is going to make me post all my plush on etsy in the coming weeks!  Cheesy

Today I met with a local shop owner, who picked out some of my inventory (purses, wallets, baby bonnets) that she liked, to sell in her store!  That was a big one for me!  The next big one will be getting paid for it.  lol

For my from-home handsewn wares business:  In the last couple of weeks, I've gone to a craft fair, set up a website, dealt with a "real" store (i.e. not run out of my sewing room!) and made my first two sales!  They were both to family, but it excited me nonetheless!!

That was my big problem dealing with a gallery. We have/had a contract for her to pay monthly. Last year she didn't pay until the end of the year. I think she had to for taxes. Hopefully your experience will be better. Great job on all that exciting stuff!

I just wanted to share my exciting news with everyone. I am going to be appearing on The Martha Show and teaching her how to silkscreen. Then we're making one of my paper stencil prints and talking about my collection of hand screened bags. I hope some of you get a chance to check it out! Feb 11th, 2009. Thanks,
Michelle

The show will have a lot to do with my blog which is all about teaching home based crafters how to screen print and I'll be launching the blog there as well. My blog ishttp://www.printcutsew.com. I'll post a reminder near the date in case anyone wants to tune in. Smiley)

Hi Feast Your Eyes,

Congrats on your first sale!!! Doesn't it feel wonderful when you at last begin to see fruits from your labor Smiley

But... wait till you start making a full time income from your craft business... that's when the fun begins. You are on a great road.  Wink

I've sold stuff I'd already made to friends before, but this was my first ever real commission. It's for a friend to give as a present to her sister. (Who I've never met! A total stranger is going to be wearing stuff I made! Cool!) It's simple stuff, not the most inventive design I've ever made, but I like them:

Huh, that's kind of a dodgy pic. Ahh well, I'm still chuffed :-) I think I might replace the red dangles on the bottom of the earrings with black ones before I give them to T, though, to even out the colours.

First sale! I think Katie was almost as excited as me to get her green & black cowl, she drove to my house to get it so she didnt have to wait for the mailman! I think it looks totally sick, what do you guys think?!
Still no hits on my etsy yet, sadface.
