My fiance's name is Sam and mine is Melanie

I like monograms with just first initials but ours is S&M  Wink

I guess our married "couple's" monogram is sPm so thats ok but kinda reminds me of Spam. lol..ALTHOUGH i'm finding contradictory info on which initial is supposed to go first...some sites say the man, some say the woman and some say its up to you  Roll Eyes but what is correct? so would it be weird to do M&S or mPs? (my inital first)

What about S <3 M, (<3 represents a heart) is it still too much like S&M? Guess we don't need the "&" and could just do SM.

Thoughts??

I feel you on this one, my FH and my monogram is B&S or BS, I think it's kind of funny and may put it on everything, I don't think there is a problem with putting your name first, just depends on how your SO feels about it.

LoL I'm glad someone else out there feels my pain! (btw I am graduating this year with a bachelors in Science in psychology and I think its funny that I'll have a B.S. in psychology since some still don't regard it as an actual science  Cheesy)

so yeah...we might just put it on stuff anyways since well..it does represent our names after all!
Thanks for making me feel a little better  Grin

I would go tongue-in-cheek if I were in your situation.  Subtly acknowledge that you realize the dirty connotation by doing the monogram in a sexy black script with a red ostrich feather behind it or something similar.   Wink  Not so much if you're not that type, I guess.  Chances are if your family is pretty innocent they won't notice it anyways.

Have you considered a non-traditional monogram?  I like interconnecting the letters and the S and M could pretty easily lie on on top of the other so the starting point of the S is at the 2nd point of the M, then it swings over to follow the downward slope of the M, then back to the bottom first point of the M.  It's easiest if you use 2 different colors so the letters still stand out.

Kinda like this, though I'd recommend playing with fonts, etc.

I also really like the symbolism of monograms like these... 2 individuals interlinking their lives.

coccyx: yeah..idk about that. I mean my family definitely would know what it means (once when I was 13 my grandma told me not to wear a studded belt because "everyone" would think I was into S&M  Roll Eyes). It doesn't really fit our personalities to have it so "in your face" but i appreciate your help!

MunLtStmpr:  Hey! thats an awesome idea to overlap them like that! you're right the symbolism is nice too and it takes away from the whole S&M thing

ive heard of sadism & masochism...i just didnt know there were initials for them. Wink totally sheltered i guess?! lol thanks for your response.

in my opinion, i think your initials will be fine. you could always put a heart instead of the & sign.
