messenger bag with gusset tutorial

I've already made one and then I had a friend ask me to make her one, but in a more traditional style of messenger bag:

I haven't made my Clockwork Orange bag yet, I just can't find the perfect materials! Oh well, all the more satisfaction when I DO find it!
But anyway, I wanted a new bag to go and see my favourite band (Rammstein) with.
It's made out of a large pair of old cords, some scrap black cotton, velcro and felt.
This picture is pretty bad, I'll replace it with a different one when I'm not so tired.


and this is a closeup of the little thing on the flap, I call it Moodge.

The stiching around Moodge is so bad because I did it in about a minute before we left for the concert, I think I'll redo it when I'm not feeling so lazy.

I'm not sure if anyone else had a bit of a scuffle with this, but I think it may help if you said something about putting the flap and the strap into lining as well at that one part... I didn't know I was supposed to and it made it a bit funky, but I figured it out.

So.. I've read this post millions of times with the intentions of making one of these.. and monthes later, I've finally done it.


The front appliques were from the lining fabric, I just machine sewed them on (faaaar from perfect but oh well). I'd like to add more to the front, maybe stencil a quote or something but I don't know. Any ideas?

I'm making this bag tomorrow! I'm posting pics when I'm done! I actually read all the pages to this post, and all the tips and tricks really helped me! I hope I can make this into a wicked awesome bag jus like the rest of you guys' own.

I based it sort of on the bags at sewing stars - I love them so much but I cannot afford them, as much as I want one, so I made one of my own....of course all credit should goto Teresa!
