My son is starting pre-school next week and I made him a bag to carry his stuff.   He kept trying to get his hands on it while I was sewing, but of course when I was finished the little imp didn't want anything to do with it!  Hopefully I will be able to get a picture of him actually using it.

I start out using a pattern, but heavily modified it as I went along.  I did have to rip out some stitches here and there because of size issues (I really wanted it to accomodate an 8 x 11 inch coloring book) -that's reason the main panels have the blue contrast fabric, they were added as to give the bag the necessary height and width.  I used decor bond on all the fabrics to give it stiffness.  I used fusible fleece on the flap and did some quilting around the squares.

Comments and feedback welcome!

From one 'son loving dinos mum' to another...

It's lovely! I'm not surprised he loves it, just don't show my son ok? Cheesy

Is that the Moda dino fabrics? I've seen a jelly roll of it in my local quilt shop but not the bolts as yet...

I used a pattern from the Creative Thimble called "As You Like it Purse".  I picked this because I thought the finished dimensions would be the size I wanted - however it was late at night when I looked at the pattern, because the dimensions were too small for what I wanted.  So bascially, I used the pattern to get an idea of which pieces I needed to cut and what sizes.  I modified a lot of it, so it ended up being a different bag.

Yes, this is Moda - Dinosaur Uproar.  I have to say it is some of the cutest Dino fabric I've seen.  They also have some fabric with bugs on it as well, and a very cute panel fabric with dinosaurs.

This could not be cuter!  It's so cheerful and fun - and will be different from all of his classmates, too.  Gawgeous!
