Rockin' the baubles all around town...

So, I got a magazine a few months back and it had a great pattern in it for a SUPER easy smock top.  I am new-ish to sewing ANYTHING, so I felt it was easy enough for me to follow and I made one for a fellow craftster in a swap.  It really WAS so easy, I decided to make one for me...but...it ended up too big Sad  I will post it here anyway, and will hopefully get one done that fits me later on this week.

I LOVE this floral print!  So cool that I got about 4yd of it bundled in a bag with the coordinating green I am using on this for the patch pockets, band and straps Smiley  Got about 6-7yd of the solid green, great, cuz it's heavier weight and would make a great totebag too!

About a 6 inch slit at the top, cute button and loop closure at the band, more for an accent detail Smiley

I got clever and used a little scrap of the print fabric for a contrasting loop on the band here.  Hand whipstitched it around and around to keep it from fraying badly when washed...it was actually a piece of scrap selvage, so it may not fray at all!

Hope you like it, I know I do, and plan on making a TON more Smiley  Don't you LOVE when you find something you like so much you want one in every color?  LOL!

I just dug it out...photocopied the instructions for me to work from Smiley  It was in Sew Simple, Volume 9...I think I got it in June Huh  Not sure...label says 'display until 7/15' so....I guess I got it in June!  There are some other really neat patterns in there...got a couple other mags with stuff in them I am DYING to try too, one has a really cool hobo with a trxtured look to it, done with pleather or whatever looks like stuff those slouchy purses are made out of.

You could always resize it to fit you by taking it in at the sides. it's a shame to waste a good top!

Good luck w/ your endeavors, btw

I will try to post them...have to find the paper, I have since put it away now that I know what I am doing and have made my own changes to the instructions to make my job easier, or to improve the look of it Smiley  I am now doing a box pleat instead of just basting and pulling the threads to cinch.  Makes it look MUCH more tailored and professional, as you can get ALL the pleating to be even!
