Durian cozy - with irony (img heavy)

The minute this challenge theme was posted I thought DURIAN! If anything cries, yells, screams out for a cozy, it has to be a durian!
Those spikes are SHARP! So - a durian cozy:

Now the irony ... durians are meant to be EATEN ... after which, they no longer need a cozy:

So .... how about a dual-use cozy? My favorite basket - used to carry my lunch and knitting to work - really, truly needed a cozy as well, as you can see:


Amazingly, the durian cozy fit the basket just perfectly ...

Voila! A BASKET cozy!

(BTW, this was made out of some sort of very rough stiff stuff I bought years ago when teaching - we had to have a craft section and I bought it for macrame. Not sure but it might be hemp.)

I've never eaten or smelled durian, but i hear they smell terrible, and the taste is "acquired" at best.

Ha!  Put that thing in a cozy and seal it forever!

I am moving to Bangkok next year, so I might have to make me a durian cozy! I like the fact that yours can be used for dual purposes.

Oh, poor, poor babies, never tried durian! It is a lovely fruit, though protected by very hard, very sharp spikes (beware of being under the tree when it falls), very creamy. And yes, for the uninitiated the odor is quite strong, but for durian lovers, it is a siren's song ...

Grows only in Southeast Asia naturally, I believe, though I remember one of the former missionaries in Thailand planted some seeds on his Florida property and it is growing ...

It does have quite a reputation, and as h_pets360 said, some people would rather it be sealed up forever!

Oooooooooooooooo, moving to Bangkok? Can we start a crafting group, huh? It gets lonely here! I have a hard time with the Thai words for knitting and crocheting and all of that, though my Thai is fluent otherwise! And I'd be happy to introduce you to Mr. Durian!

You opened a durian, willingly?  Brave woman.  My grandmother opened one once at my house.  It smelled for days.  I wish now that I'd tried some, but we haven't had any since... I wonder why...

Very cute (I wasn't sure that durians could be cute, but now I know!) and good repurposing!  The cozy looks very good on the basket.
