I was searching the internet for stuffed owls for inspiration to make my own as a gift for a friend and through the wonders of weird-ass boolean google search bots came upon the ever-popular knitted stuffed uterus... umm... thing.

I'd seen it before and inspiration never hit before, but I guess the hellish week I just had with some of the worst period cramps of my life lent a hand to my creative juices flowing. I just saw the stuffed pink uterus and instantaneously decided that I wanted a heat therapy bag for those pesky cramps.

I ran into the office and proclaimed to my husband that I was a genius and explained my idea. I guess the whole "guy" thing is keeping him from completely understanding the fabulous-ness of it. Oh well... I am still quite confident in my fantastic genius creativity.

So, onwards with the TUTE!!

Materials:
*pink fabric (or really color of choice, I won't judge you by the color of your uterus, promise  Grin )
*rice
*essential oil (if desired)
*stuffing
*embroidery floss (if desired)

Step 1:
Take a large single piece of fabric and fold in half.

Step 2:

Step 3:

I again interrupted my husband playing games on the computer and asked "how do you like my uterus?" His response: "I dunno, I can't see it." *rolls eyes* I love him to death but sometimes he's such a GUY. I need more gay friends. *sigh* Moving on...

Step 4:

Step 5:

Whipstitch cervix opening shut and complete machined topstitching.

Step 6:

Step 7:

Step 8:

As with most everything I post on Crafster, feel free to make for personal use or gifts, but please don't sell tutorial or finished product. Thanks!  Grin

What do y'all think?   Tongue

ETA - Oh yeah, directions for heating. All the tutes I'd seen on the net advise to heat in microwave at 15 second intervals for up to a minute. Don't burn the rice or you will have a very stinky uterus... and no one wants that. You can also toss into the freezer as a cooling pack.

Oh it's a single uterus. Just like me on my period it has a split personality. I think the visual cues might help the DH know when to avoid me as well... lol.

OMG, I should make a ton of these for myself and my female friends AND their daughters!!  Such win!!!

Hmmm, what oils?  Lavender will be calming, chamomile too.  Lemon balm (melissa) smells nice, and ginger is ok, if you like it.

Probably any scent you find soothing or invigorating could be used, it IS your uterus!!

But here is an article that may have use: www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp?ID=1938

I used a Jasmine EO in mine and will possibly try a Lemongrass next time. Also toying with the idea of using my favorite perfume oil blends rather than straight up EO.

wow.

if only i had one of those last week it wouldnt have been as sucky!

that is amazing!

and i can see other vital(yeah i think the uterus is deffinately a vital organ lol) organs amking very cute cuddly things.

the most obvios being a cute heart shaped heat pack with a face.maybe some lungs?

and obviously a stomach for when you have good old fashioned tummy ache!!

i think im going to make a heart one(best for when your big brother lives in the house)

amazing!

question!: do you have any problems with the yarn or pillow stuffing in the microwave? Also, outer material? I was thinking of tearing apart a t-shirt...

I dunno much about it all since this is the first/only one I've ever made. Most tutorials on the web for heat therapy bags show them as covers. Like you would make a bag filled with rice or buckwheat or whatever and it would have a removable cover you could wash as needed. I figure mine won't be out that often so hopefully won't get as dirty. I know I've seen the covers in satin before but I don't personally know how that would go. I wouldn't think there'd be a problem with it though.... Anyone else know for sure?

question!: do you have any problems with the yarn or pillow stuffing in the microwave? Also, outer material? I was thinking of tearing apart a t-shirt...

Nope, no problems so far. I heat it on a very low setting multiple times so I'm sure that helps. Like I'll do it for 10 second intervals up to a minute or so total to get the warmth that I like. I've used this same stuffing in the oven before at much higher temps for longer (polymer clay projects) and it comes through like a champ. Oh... and the outer material I used is a cotton blend used for dressier men's button-up shirts. It's thicker weight than a t-shirt but I don't think there'd be any huge problems with using that. The rice might be more "bumpier" though but that's all I can think of.

My only issue is making sure I clean up my husband's mess from re-heating soup prior to microwaving. Smiley

My hubby saw the little pic on the main page and goes "Is that what I think it is?" He was so shocked. lol.
I was like" Yeah people on craftster do that stuff all the time." I'm obviously more cultured than he is. At least when it comes to crafts! lol
Anyways what a clever use of something like the uterus. Smiley great idea.

I am sooooooooooo making one of these.  Thanks for the tut!!!  I have a friend who had BAD cramps.   She always acts like she is DYING.  I gave her a rice filled bag (by the way, you can put lavendar or other spices in it so when it heats it smells good) but it was just a plain old boring rectangle shape.

This rocks!
