i was at the thrift store today looking at sheets and curtains for fabric and came across a duvet (sp). it was half off so i got it for 5 bucks! i loved it as it was a king size (front and back all the same fabric), very soft and a nice fall looking fabric. well i got it home and looked at it really good and its a ralph lauren. there is absolutley nothing wrong with it. so my question is would you tear it up and use it or would you feel bad and want someone to use it for its orignal purpose?

i have to make things for my house as all my money goes to feed two cats, a dog, a hedgehog, a tarantula, two frogs, a snake and two humans

It's fabric, it was $5. Go for it.

oooh - I get the moral quandary - being a nice duvet and all - but it was at the thrift store, and once there, its former life is in its past, and it's original purpose has already been served.

Now it can retire, and the fabric can be set free!
