Hi!
I am doing a textile course at Tafe.
This project is the synthetic body, requiring three items from an op-shop, two soft, one hard, to be made into a sculpture.
My idea was to make a coocooned baby, but he looks more like a mummified baby.
What I find interesting is that I made him with love, (and he's soft and slightly weighted ) but a lot of people wont even touch him, except my classmates.
He got his name from a drunk Irish guy who fell in love with him on a train.

The twins are still being sewn and have yet to gain a name. They had a third arm, but it looked wrong. They are heavier weighted with a sand bag and rice. Both the twins and Mumbles are covered in baby blanket sewn on. My class haven't seen the twins yet.

Feedback welcome and encouraged.
thanks for looking,
S

They are, indeed, a little frightening, but really cute in their own way.

Thanks breemonkey and FifiB!
They are soft and cuddly, and I'm used to them, but yes, a little creepy to others I guess.

I used a doll in a sculpture class and found it to be really difficult to work with cos I couldn't detach from it being a 'baby'. I wrapped it in wool but I found people had a very similar reaction ('ewww... that looks like some satanic object...').

Have you considered trying to cover its shape a bit and detach from the idea of it being a body? Maybe pad around it so its not such a hard shape or modify it by adding extremeties that aren't standard limbs?

they're so adorable.  i don't think they're creepy, i think they're fun.  and in this month's reader's digest there's a story about conjoined twins, and they were each given conjoined dolls and could cut them apart when they were ready as a therapeutic device in preparation for their coming-apart surgery.  it reminded me of your baby dolls.

I love these - especially Mumbles. My only suggestion would be to put a slight definition where the faces would be. For instance, minor indents where the eyes would go, or some such. That feels like the finishing touch that is missing to me. But still, wonderful, and wonderfully creepy.  Smiley

Is it wrong that I don't find these creepy at all? I think they are totally cute. Good job.
