this is the toe part and I understand that it is increasing and rounding but I just don't know what to do.

if i'm reading right, you should...

in the next stitch, sc, sc, hdc, hdc. then sc, sc, hdc, hdc again. and do that in the two stitches after that as well.

do you have a link to the pattern? i think that's right, but seeing the pattern might help.

Working across other side of ch now, make 2 dc in next. Dc (6, 6, 7, 7). Hdc 1. Sc (7, 8, 8, 9). (40, 42, 44, 46) sts total.
2) Beginning in top of 1st sc of prv rnd, make 2 (sc, sc, hdc, hdc) in ea of next 3 sts. (Sc 16, sc 17, hdc 18, hdc 19). Make 2 (sc,

I was thinking the same thing about in one stitch doing sc 2 times then hdc 2 times.  I cant think of what else it could mean.

did you try working past that point?
sometimes in patterns you need to work past the part that looks odd and it starts to make sense.

even with the pattern you posted, it still seems like that's what you're supposed to do.

Could there be a possibility that the : make 2 (sc,sc,hdc, hdc)  ... , instructions in parenthesis refer to your foot (shoe) size   ... and you would have to choose according to your size what stitch to use ? Smaller sizes will be: make 2 (sc) in each of the next 3 stitches ... and bigger sizes: make 2 (hdc) in each of the next 3 stitches.. etc ?
Do I make sense ... I hope so !  Wink
