I was at the California State Fair last week for the first (and hopefully last - that place is expensive!!) time, and I was stuffing my face with cotton candy when inspiration struck me.
This skirt isn't made primarily from scraps - I actually went out and purchased fabric for this one (yay me!)  But I think it still counts as a reconstruction because the base of the skirt is a vintage half-slip.

Close-up of my favorite detail, I'm so proud of the beading XD:

Comments? Criticisms?

Here are some additional close-ups:

How much time did you put into it?  It looks so detailed and very well crafted.  Kudos!

Thank you thank you XD.
I think I spent about three days more or less non-stop working on this skirt.  It was way more fiddly than any other skirt I've made because I wanted the strips of fabric to be thinner so I could get as many different textures on the skirt as possible...If that makes any sense  Tongue

Ohh that is beautiful.
You really did a fantastic job with it and I definitely see the resemblance to cotton candy.
I would wear that with much pride, ahh I want it! =]

Awesome!

It reminds me of that one clothing like that is all just scraps sewing/patchworked together. I forget what it's called, but it's really neat.

Want to go further in depth as to how you made it? I'd love that.

WOW!   Shocked
This skirt is like a dream come true to me.
I am absolutely in love.
I would pay much more for this skirt in a store than I normally would on clothing.

I am in awe.  Amazing amazing amazing.   Grin

I can definitely see the cotton candy inspiration in this  Smiley I too was at the State Fair for the first and probably only time (although I loved petting the llamas at the petting zoo!) and I never imagined that any sort of crafty inspiration could come from it.

@ The Muffin:
I started out with a vintage slip that was too long for what I had in mind, so I chopped off the bottom half and made sewed a new elastic waist-band into the top of it.  Then I began to sew small strips of different fabrics onto the top tier of the slip (I don't know if you can tell, but the slip is actually divided into three tiers with two lines of lace) this process took forever because I was using tiny scraps of fabric and trying to make it look like a genuine collage.  When I had covered the entire top section of the skirt with scraps, I topstitched over the whole mess with purple thread to give it some texture (and to make sure that no stray bits fall off  Wink).
I pretty much repeated the process on the second section only I used much longer pieces of fabric.
For the third section of the skirt I gathered long strips of fabric and lace and sewed them on in layers of alternately pink and purple.  Then I decided to go completely overboard and whipped out my small stash of luminescent seed beads and tiny faux pearls  - I don't think much of the beading shows up on the pictures though.

Um That was probably too much text and/or extremely boring...Sorry - I'm not very good at explaining things.

@bethanyjoyce:
I'm so jealous; I would've loved to pet baby llamas, only I couldn't find the petting zoo (my bf and I had a terrible time trying to read the map of the fair and we were both to shy to ask anyone for directions...)

I hear ya about the map not very helpful, and I have a good sense of direction too! We found the petting zoo 10 minutes before it closed.
The llama's hair felt coarser than I expected  if I had a llama, I'd get one with super soft fibers and knit from them! It would be awesome. (See how I kept this reply craft related?  Wink)

Thanks so much everyone.  The positive responses make me feel so good  Smiley.
I was actually kind of bummed about my skirts earlier - today a friend (or so I thought) brought up my skirts and totally trashed them. She was telling me that she was really glad I was majoring in apparel marketing and design because obviously I needed it. She even brought up my etsy on her laptop and sat and laughed at me with one of her friends.
And She did all of this after asking me for a huge favor, Hmmm let's calculate that shall we?
The cost of keeping your mouth shut if you have nothing good to say/ no crafting experience/no constructive criticism?
$0
The look on your face when I don't pick you up at the airport.
Priceless.

If I could score this at the State Fair, I would give it five stars and a Championship Level blue ribbon.  It really kicks!

Love the freeform stitching, it gives your skirt fabulous dimension and makes everything look flow-y, if that's even a word!  Excellent work.  (I also hit "this rocks")
