This cake is SOOO cute!!  I do love the pincushion - and  you could make the same cake for a baby shower and just replace the pincushion w/something else!! (a lil fat baby?? lol)

First, thanks so much everybody! I'm glad everyone likes it.

I love this cake its amazing. So a few questions..
1. did you buy already dyed fondant. I tried to dye marzipan once and the colors were so gross.
2. Is the rest of the cake fondant too?
3. Any tips on making the boxes so perfect.
4. How does fondant taste. I love a good frosting but i love the look of fondant but i fear the taste.

1. I've been using Wilton fondant that I buy uncoloured and then mix my own colours with the Wilton gel food colouring. Honestly tho, I think the Wilton fondant leaves a lot to be desired. I just can't seem to find anything better at the moment. (If anyone has any suggestions I'd LOVE to hear them.)
2. Yep.
3. Honestly, the cakes weren't really 'perfect'. But when you use fondant you have to cover the cake in something before the fondant, so I do a layer of icing first and fill in any imperfections and get the icing as close to perfect as I can. Also, with something like this, any problem areas or flaws are REALLY easily hidden. Buttons do wonders for covering up things.  Wink
4. Personally I'm not crazy about the taste (I've noticed most adults peeling off the fondant) but like I said, there's a layer of icing under there. It tastes like... well... somewhere between icing sugar and marshmallows. You can always add flavouring but be careful how much liquid you add or it turns in to a sticky mess. (I always keep a bag of icing sugar next to me and use it like flour when I bake.)

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to HAVE to post this beauty to my blog, Paisley Cupcakes! All of your hard work paid off, I'm sure she was thrilled. Smiley

Wonderful idea and great job!! One of the best cakes I've seen on here. The buttons are a wonderful idea and I agree that the cushion makes a fabulous topper that ties the whole cake together wonderfully.  Grin
