DIY EASY Cake Stand

I've never really liked seeing a wedding cake sitting directly on a table. So just weeks before our wedding, out came the new Martha Stewart Weddings, and in it was her "Good Things" Cake Stand... So I don't take credit for the idea myself, here is the link below

So, we cut a board, painted it, used vintage glass cabinet knobs for feet, then hot glued ribbon all the way around. I was excited for such a simple thing, and it added such a touch of grandeur, so I'd thought I'd share.

And I LOVE the stand!!!!, I don't like the idea of the cake sitting directly on the table either and this adds so much more to that amazing cake!

Super cool cake stand!! The cake looks amazing, too.

You could also add to it...paint your wedding date and initials on the board, then use it for future cakes (change the ribbon if you like) and paint the other dates, too (anniversary cakes, birthday cakes, etc.).

It looks great. I would also love to see your dress!

Thank you for all the compliments on the cake. Our cake almost didn’t make it. Our friend delivering the cake was almost sideswiped by a car running a red light. So when it got there, it was cracked and leaning. Being the ever calm bride, I asked “But does it taste good?” Crisis Averted. She fixed it on site and nobody was the wiser.

The base of our cake was 12” square, and our cake plate was 18” so there was about 3” all the way around. However there was also the cardboard on top so from the cardboard to the edge there was only about 1.5” all the way around.

We just spray painted ours. Because it’s SOOO big, I don’t know what else I would do with it. I don’t know if I ever plan on having another cake that big.   But that’s such a wonderful idea to add dates to it.

Plus we made ours about 4 days before the wedding, so we didn’t spend too much time on it. Plus we wanted to keep it simple so it wouldn’t detract from the cake.

You may not be able to tell from the photo, but the cake is a very soft pink, and the stand is white.

Lovely! Just beautiful the entire thing! I am so going to do this was a wooden cheese board someone gave me. It's cheap but would look great painted with the little glass knobs. I would keep that board. You could use it for all kinds of parties and not just for cake, cupcakes, meat slices, veggie slices, cheese platter, bread tray and so on. Just be sure to cut some parchment or wax paper to size of the board so your food does not touch the spray painted surface and your good to go. You could even change out the ribbon to the seasons or party themes! Lee-ove it! Adorable!
