I had a hideous old magnet board sitting around my house.  Originally it had a "beach" theme but it was really unattractive. I finally got around to repainting it, with a silhouette of a tree, and made leaf shaped magnets to go with it.  I also added the hooks along the bottom, for hanging keys or whatever.

Very pretty! I love that the magnets are both functional and part of the design.

Yes, I guess I could have gone into more detail about the process, huh?

First I took the board apart, sanded the crap out of everything to remove all the old paint and finish.

I then reassembled the frame and magnet board and painted them with acrylic paint.  I used several coats of a spray sealer with a satin finish to add shine and keep it from getting scratched or otherwise mucked up.  And then put the rest of the hardware back on.

The magnets were blank wooden leaf shapes that I took off of a decorated box, repainted, sealed, and then glued magnets to the back.

It was a really fun project, and I love the way it looks.

Really original - I want one!  And the cool part is you can make leaf magnets for the other seasons, too - blossoms for spring, green leaves for summer.  I love it.

I think it needs a bird magnet too.  Nice.
