I don't really know how to say this, but I kind of think that there should be somewhere that says that swap participants should check up on their organizers, just like organizers should check up on the participants. I recently nearly joined a swap, remembered something not so great about the organizer, and saw that, although she had all positive feedback, all of her comments were negative~sending late, no communication, etc. I didn't sign up for that swap. I kind of know, after swapping a bit, which organizers are super organizers, and stick with them, but for someone new to swapping, or if they are unfamiliar with a swap organizer? I'm not saying this person might not end up being a great organizer, but I am still kind of worried due to past personal experience.

I always check their feedback, read through their topics started and posts.  You can get a good feel about an organizer just by reading through the last swap that they organized.

Yep - I've learned to check out the organizer's page/stats/posts before sending in a swap questionnaire.

If there are already some sign-ups for a swap, I also check out some of the participants' pages to get a feel for the type of people that are interested in the swap to gauge whether it would be a good fit.

I also would check on how any swaps they previously organized went - there are organizers that have flaked out on their swap once they get their own packages - so read the last few pages of a thread to see who actually finished up a swap. Generally there will be posts by mods or by new organizer types.

I think from now on I will always check their age too. I've had a ton of problems in a recent swap because my partner (who was one of the organizers) apparently can't ship to a P.O. Box because her Mom will only drive her to a UPS store. So in order for me to get my package she is having to ship it to the other organizer who will then ship to me. It's not that I don't think that all ages should participate.. it's just that if you can't drive by yourself or can't take public transit and therefore can't ship.. it creates a huge headache.  Undecided
