i just wanted to give you all a heads up: this coming saturday is the matsuri festival!

for those who have never been, it's a huge festival every year in downtown phoenix celebrating japanese culture.  two stages are set up for performers- traditional dancing and music, taiko drumming, martial arts, etc.  there's tons of booths with plenty for sale, also bonsai and koi fish exhibits, etc.

there are usually a couple of booths that sell fabric, and i'm sure some of you would be inspired by the wares you'll run across.

for details: http://www.azmatsuri.org/

one last thing: matsuri is a lot of fun, but it's always packed.  Tongue

I'd love to, but I have to work on the fifth and on the nineteenth I'll be in MI for my brother's wedding.  BUT, I quit my frame shop job at craftmart, and I'm going to start teaching sewing classes there, so no more working weekends after I get home from MI and then I'll finally be able to meet everyone!

Yay! This really is a great little festival - make sure you hit the bazaar where they sell random items... last year they had scraps of kimono fabric that were a huge hit (pricey, but lovely!).

I'll definately be there too!

It was fun on Sunday. We got to order lunch in Japanese from this booth full of crazy women with tamborines. We liked how the older people appreciated the use of their language. When we told an Older woman that the cream puffs were "Oishi" she got this big smile on her face.

We weren't interested in the martial arts or the sucky, white kodo drummers. The small amount of arts and crafts were cool. I bought this hand painted Usagi frame from a woman doing toll painting and that was it. Aside from snacks and drinks we didn't get anything else.

If we're in AZ next year I'll go on Saturday so we have more time to make fun of white girls in kimonos.
