Autumn/Winter Coat anyone?

Mine is on hold.  The curtains I was going to use for fabric are not quite big enough for me to cut out all the pieces.  So, I'm planning to go to the fabric store later this week in search of coat fabric.  I'm thinking wool or corduroy, or jacquard... everything's wide open at the moment.

My used garments also don't have enough fabric for the design I'm contemplating, so I have to dig through my stash to find suitable extra fabric...

Hmm... I finished my daughter's coat today, but the zipper ripples.  I suppose that will teach me not to stabilize the fleece before I sew the zipper in.  Though I've now sewn the zipper twice (the second in an attempt to get it to lie down flatter), so picking the seams out would be a bit of a pain (especially since I sewed the bottom of the zipper three extra times on top of the first two, since my coats always seem to have the bottom of the zipper pull out).  If I didn't have to be up fairly early in the morning, I'd go pick it out and redo it with a stabilizer.  We'll see how ambitious I feel tomorrow (and whether I stay to help at the party my DS is going to tomorrow).

It's irritating that I didn't think of stabilizer before I put the zipper in. It's not like I haven't ever used it before.

I am sooooo behind! It'll probably be spring by the time I finish! well, maybe not...but it feels that way now.
I have signed up for 3 craft shows in the next couple of months & need to sew for that too - so the coat is my "down time" and yes, I am a little nuts.

I finally got back to working on my jacket, but I'm having a really tough time of it because I need to drape the pieces, but I don't have a dressform yet - I just ordered one.  I think I'll have to wait to work on the jacket until I get the dressform, because it is just too difficult trying to pin the pieces together when it's just lying as a pile on the bed.

I've officially given up on my coat-along, because I don't like the way it's turning out.  Blah.     Guess I'll use these pieces to make something else.

Sorry to hear that.    I frequently don't sew for myself because I have a hard time getting it to look the way I want it to (fitting issues, my mental figure is about 4 sizes smaller than my actual figure....).     I hope you can use the pieces to make something awesome!

Ah thanks!  I hate giving up on projects, but sometimes, things just don't work out.

I acquired some black corduroy that I'm going to use for my first attempt today.  So I will finally be making a coat soon.
