Welcome to the Middle East and North African Inspired Swap - A swap for all things inspired by this truly inspiring region of the world!

Gallery
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=271416.0

There has been extensive pre-swap discussion for this swap here http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=183433.0
including a fantastic list of resources from Jillie which I have included below, for which we must thank her - and also for starting the discussion.

You will be making crafts inspired by the Middle East and North Africa!  You can use supplies from the region, make traditional Arabic crafts, swap recipes and music from the region or make anything you wish inspired by the theme!

This swap is open to everyone!  You don't have to live in or be from the region, just be inspired by it.

In case anyone was wondering, by North African I am meaning Saharan countries and those further north, i.e. Morocco, Tunisa etc.

Thanks, Kenners! I have to finish up 2 swaps, and then I'll most likely be "in" for this one. Smiley

I'd like to add that my special interest in this swap comes from "adopting" the culture of the Lebanese and Phoenician people from my Lebanese MIL and her extended family, although I am 100% Irish myself.  Grin

This maybe of interest to some people from this swap... there is a belly dance swap in the sign up stages at the moment, thought it may appeal to people who are interested in this swap.

You can find it here

Yay, count me in...I was just thinking about reviving the South Asia swap and I see there's some crossover here (I think of Pakistan/Afghanistan as South Asian), so this should hold me over.  There is a lot of crossover in styles between the two regions.  Good call, cuz I know the Asia swaps usually leave this part of the world out.

Just to let you guys know I've been away for the weekend (its the bank holiday here) so its not that I've been ignoring your applications, I've just been busy seeing friends. Tomorrow I shall be updating everything!

Edit: Ok, everyone who has applied so far should have received a pm confirming this and have their names on the front page. Let me know if I've missed anyone.

I'm excited Smiley

Its a slow day at work and so I've been doing some browsing of the internets and have come up with a couple of links that I think people here may appreciate:

http://www.marlamallett.com/kilims.htm
Another section of this website is mentioned in resources above, however, this bit is about Kilims etc made my nomads in the Middle East.

Lots of the rugs I saw in Tunisia were made to very similar patterns.

http://www.costumes.org/ethnic/1pages/ethnolnk.htm
This site has information and links about costumes from all over the world. There is an Africa section and a Middle East Section.

Be warned though, a lot of the links are out of date now!

Finally, http://www.turkotek.com/salon_00104/salon.html
Lots of lovely felted rugs from Iran here. I believe that felt is used widely in parts of the Middle East (especially the colder bits) for clothing and yurts etc. These rugs are so pretty Smiley

Welcome to the swap Jaybee!

It looks like its going to be quite a small swap (an organisers' dream!) but from scanning the questionnaires I think we'll get some good matches between partners Smiley
