Ram w/Gas Mask Stencil *first post!*

Hi everyone!  I always lurk on here and get inspiration from everyone's posts... but until now I've never posted any of my work.  My boyfriend belongs to a metal band called DevilsClub.  They're a part of a group of metal bands known as the Flint City Death Squad.  Next weekend they're playing a local metal festival that involves camping and partying for four days.  All of the FDS bands are going to camp in the same area and my boyfriend wanted a flag to put over the area for whatever reason... anyway, its unfinished as we didn't get the words "Flint City Death Squad" and their Myspace address on yet, but this first stencil was the real challenge anyhow.

This is the stencil drawn out on freezer paper.  Its half black and half green because my black sharpie died and a green one was the closest one to me.


Here's a progress shot of what the stencil looked like after five hours of cutting out the shaded areas.  The dark spots are the "bridges" I made while I was going along.  This is easily the most complicated stencil I've ever attempted:


And here's what we finished just an hour or so ago.  I just realized that we didn't paint in the bridges so I suppose I'll be doing that tomorrow when I stencil the words on.  I'm really proud of how this came out and my boyfriend is THRILLED with it.


You can see from the picture that there were a few areas with paint leakage and I might fix those up with black paint.  But nobody is really going to be seeing it up close so I might leave it, depending on time.

wow! this is a seriously complicated stencil! great job on it though, that must have taken some patience... when ever i do them i can never be bothered to make such a complicated stencil! kudos to you and your drawing and stencil cutting skills

WOW. That is seriously fantastic (even with the bridges still visible... they look intentional.) I've done some pretty intricate stencils before, and by the end I was ready to do myself harm with the X-acto from sheer tediousness, so SERIOUS kudos for sticking it out. Amazing detail. You are a stenciling hero.

That is freakin awesome - thought it already looked good drawn out in black for stencil cutting but the white on black is really effective and the design is just kick ass (is that yours?)

If it's a big festival then a flag is blooming useful to remember where your tent is, especially if you have been imbibing the product of the grain or the grape!!
