Hi All,

My best friend is pregnant, and she's VERY tiny. She's a size 0/XS, and she's five months pregnant right now. I just altered a pair of her jeans (you can check them out here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=264568.0), so for now she's good in the pants area.

But I'm looking for ideas on tops. She also hasn't been able to find any maternity tops that don't look too frumpy, and aren't way too large for her in the top/arm. She wears an XS shirt, and is just now moving to a B cup.

Anyone have any ideas, or patterns or suggestions?

Thanks!

Maybe you can make a top with a high waist (just under the bust) and make it fitted at the top and wider from the waist down.
Maybe it's possible to find patterns for tops like that in smaller size (even if not specificly maternity) and maybe even labelled as a teen's pattern.
Or you could try and make your own pattern based on something that does fit her.

My first thought was Jalie: www.jalie.com.  They have several top patterns that will work for maternity if you use a stretchy fabric (think lycra blends), and their patterns are sized all the way from toddler to plus size (in one envelope) so you should be able to find your friend's size.

I also bet there are several tutorials on altering top patterns for maternity wear if you search here on craftster, or on google.  Hopefully someone else with real maternity sewing experience will reply. Smiley

If she is that small, she probably doesn't need MATERNITY clothes per se.  I would try regular patterns in babydoll or empire styles.  Look for tops with a crossover bodice so she can wear them after delivery, while nursing.
