I might be wrong but wasn't the problem with the wishlist swaps the fact that some people might get picked more times than they were claimed? - that always seems very unfair to me, I'd be very uncomfortable with receiving more packages than I had sent out. Maybe we could commit to sending and receiving 1, 2 or 3 packages?
...would that work?

That would work for me - if there is a signup I will join the next round.  I enjoyed this round.  Sadly though I have too much on my plate to help organize - sorry Sad

Love the idea of the commitment to send packages - sadly though there will always be an issue of when it gets down to the nitty gritty - when you have only a few lists left and a few people left to claim and they can't find something on the lists they would want to make - or send supplies for - and then those people with the lists left would just get *something* for the sake of requiring sending a package of some sort out... sometimes it is better to not receive at all than to actually get something very poorly constructed  or something completely inappropriate.

When I picked people - I chose people that were not picked or picked as often.   Some people do not mind that they are sending to someone that only claimed once and already has a few claims on them... not to mention if you claim the organizer it doesn't show up..

Maybe having a more active second organizer can help with that part though - if you are in list a you make your claim to organizer A, if you are in list B you make your claim to organizer B - of course if you are wanting to select that organizer you would need to contact the other organizer... just a few thoughts.

I am not sure how to even the score for some - and you are right - I think that is why the wish list swaps went bye bye.  It was truly one sided - at least this swap you were suppose to get at least one package.  I went in to it thinking I would send out 3 or 4 times and only receive once.  I was startled when I was chosen twice!  My lists always seem to not get picked...

We were VERY fortunate to have no flakers (another round of hugs and kisses for all of you!  Kiss); it would be doubly crappy to send packages to 3 people, get claimed once, and have that one person flake on you--it's a lot easier to get turned off from swapping in such scenarios!

There are various swaps throughout the year that touch on aspects of this swap, though none I've seen are exactly like this! And part of why it was such a fun swap, I think, was getting into "the holiday spirit" and not knowing what "Santa" was going to bring you...Now it seems like no one surprises each other with gifts anymore; they give out wishlists for the givers to choose from, or people give gift certificates or cash, and those are all good things but they lack the magical mysteriousness that made the season so fun in our collective cultural memory.

I like craftydeb's idea of splitting into 2 groups with 2 organizers.

And congrats to all of you who were selected in the FOC Second Chance Wishlist swap-type-thing!

Forgot to mention - that "claiming 3 people, getting claimed once and having that person flake" situation I mentioned? It happened to me in the previous Secret Santa Swap, and that one was for a large item! I'd completely blocked out of my consciousness that it had happened to ME until right now!
I wonder what it says about my subconscious that I would have that happen and then organize the next Secret Santa Swap myself.  Huh Weird.

I guess you brought some good crafty karma to this swap, calluna - it was a great one!   Grin
