My son and I took a workshop in medeival illumination this summer.  I made this for a swap and I really wanted to share since I am quite proud of it.  It turned out a lot better than I thought, esp. since I'm more used to pagan subject matter.

It measures 1.5" X 1.5" and the colours are a lot more rich, but as you can tell from the white mat, my photo didn't turn out that well.  My son was impressed by the fact that we were using 23 carat gold - and I must say, it does quite a lot of bling.  I also painted it on calfskin vellum which adds its own richness to the colour which doesn't translate into photos.

I'm working on a few more pieces and I'll post them when they are done (but these I am keeping  Grin )

Wow! That's awesome. I've always been interested in Illumination and knotwork but it seems so very unforgiving... and I make LOADS of mistakes and revisions when painting/drawing Smiley

I can't believe it's so tiny! What did you use to colour it? Ink? Gauche? The colours are really lovely.

Well done! Can't wait to see more.
