Mailbox into garden tool storage

I picked up a new mailbox post off of craigslist, which gave me the motivation to buy a new mailbox.  So out by the street there is a nice, conservative white mailbox post with a green mailbox.  *yawn*  But Mr Ruby like the front yard to be fairly "traditional."  But now is where the fun begins.  My step-mother keeps a mailbox in her garden to store her pruners, gloves, etc.  Its great idea because it keeps the tools out of the weather, yet when you need them they are close by.  No more running to the house/garage/shed! 

Of course, since I'm "allowed" more whimsy in the  backyard, I had some fun with the old mailbox.     No before pictures, but imagine a well weathered wooden post and an old, faded black, vinyl mailbox.  I had a can of green spray paint for plastic, which I used on the mailbox.  Then I painted the post purple!  It still wasn't fun enough, so I busted out the acrylic paint. I doubt the paint is going to last outside, but I can hope.   My intent was just to do a little accent.  Oops!

I'm a nortorious ADD gardener....my tools are where ever I last used them...allll over the yard.  Frustrating. .."oh...look at that!"     now where did I put that?

I'm totally ADD, too.  But I tend to leave tools the last place I put them, but I cna generally remember where the last place I used something is.  Mr Ruby, however, can't stand that.  Everything always has to be in its proper place LOL  But back to the topic, I can't tell you how many times I have been out checking on the garden and I've wanted to weed, but it seems like too much effort to walk across the yard, open the shed, grab the gloves, pull two thistles, then reverse the process.  Now, the needed things are right there

I am so stealing this idea. I work at a nonprofit creative reuse center and someone just donated 40 or so mailboxes. I wanted one, but wasn't sure what to do with it until now. Thank you! And is it ok if I put your pics up near our display? I think it will help sell them.
