I made this flip-flop cake for a going away party.  The woman was moving to California, so the party had a beach theme.

Looking down at the cake.  The cake was chocolate.  I made the flip-flops out of cake and frosted everything with buttercream.  I had a hard time making the buttercream look smooth on the flip-flops.  I would have put fondant around them, but they didn't want fondant.  I used a yellow Rainbow Twizzler for the straps.  The two orange pansies are made of royal icing.  I used green fondant for the towel.  The towel would be easy to take off if they wanted.  The shells are made out of candy melts.  I made the sand using crushed graham crackers and brown sugar.

Close-up of flip-flop, towel, seashells, and sand.

Another picture after I smoothed the flip-flops a little more.
