This was made a few months ago after the daughter came home from school and rather frantically told me that she had a birthday party to go to...the next day...and needed a present.  A trip to the local liquidators, a waltz through my stash and an hour of drafting/sewing later I produced this pretty, batik yoga mat bag for the birthday girl (and included a yoga mat, of course.)

Thanks all!  It was a hit.  The birthday girl loved it and my daughter was all 'awwwwww...I was hoping that was for me!'

sewnikki - we have a few yoga mats in our house and I daresay they get used more for nice seating while attending outdoor music festivals, picnics in the park, sleepovers & camping than for yoga proper.  Yoga mats are the best things since slice bread!

Fantastic! I have another thing added to the 'list of things I'd love to sew when I'm not too scared to go near a sewing machine without assistance and also when I find some fabric' list! My yoga mat, though gorgeous and purple, is seriously lacking.

To sewnikki: You should get one anyways! I find they're worth it, as piratelibrarian said. I brought mine to my camp this year and we went on a four day hiking trip, complete with sleeping on wooden platforms. So glad I had my trusty light yoga mat with me. And hey, just because you don't do/know yoga now doesn't mean you couldn't, there's lots of advice on the internet. Hey, sometimes I even use mine to sit on to watch TV or study (I don't like desks.)

Anyways, I'm done. =) Have a great day, everyone!

Yay!  I take mine camping too even though I suffer the indignity of being made fun for being the only person without an inflatable mattress.  Do you know how much those things weigh, though?

A yoga mat bag would be a great project to start with, x_maggief.  They're pretty simple and really only require straight lines.  I bet you could do it Smiley

Thanks, piratelibrarian! Actually, I've done lots of sewing in my life, my mother's a compulsive sewer herself. My problem is I usually get all afraid I'm doing it wrong and have to make sure I'm doing it right and I have a lot of ideas, and usually I just get looked at oddly when I mention what I want to do. Ahaha. Oh well. Thanks, I think I might just try it!
