Hey everyone,

I need some help.  I want to make the Grooms Cake for my wedding in November and I want to make it to look like an USDA Prime Steak. lol.  I need ideas, what kinds of frostings etc. to use.  I want it to look like this:

Any suggestions?

I would say, use fondant to cover it and paint it with food colors.

I've been told that fondant tastes horrible.  I've never tried it though.

It does taste something awful.  You can use a marshmallow fondant instead of regular fondant.  That tastes like marshmallows and its quite delicious Smiley

the cake in your picture is AIRBRUSHED fondant, or sugarpaste ( if you can make sugarpaste into a sheet? )

there was a tut on a steakcake recently, i'll see if i can find it.

have you seen her other cakes? http://www.flickr.com/photos/debbiedoescakesnet/
 WOW!

There are different types of fondant, they don't all taste bad, although store bought always tastes like wax.  Try making your own, marshmallow fondant is really tasty.
