My mom taught me the recipe for these when I was a kid and it's so easy that I've never forgotten.

Preheat the oven to 350.

Melt 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter. I usually do this in the microwave in a microwave safe bowl like Pyrex.

Stir in 1 cup of light brown sugar, packed.

Stir in 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.

Stir in 1 large egg. At this point, the batter should be pretty liquid.

Stir in 1 cup of flour. Don't worry if the batter is still thin and "goopy". It should be.

Throw in as many chocolate chips and/or caramel chips as you want ( i usually use half a bag).

Pour batter in an ungreased pan, a 9 or 10" square works well for thick, chewy brownies.

Bake for approx 40 minutes.
When you take it out of the over, it should still look a little gooey. Slice into squares while still hot but wait till cool to gobble them up!

Enjoy!

ok, so i tried these, but they are in the oven cooking at the moment. I couldn't even try the batter! i'm making them for this pot-luck for church b/c we are fasting today, and it's like the breaking of the fast. So i have no idea if i did anything wrong or not. But i'll see how everyone there likes them! Oh man, they smell so good!!!! but i guess that comes with not eating anything all day!!!! thanks for posting!!! i love this little cooking part! Grin
