My friend came to me with a request from her 3yr old son. He needed a farm blanket, just like the little boy in the book he reads at bed time 'Going to Bed on the Farm'.  She had looked and looked and could not find anything that would do.  Ive made my fair share of quilts, but this was a new request.  My friend gave me free reign, so my imagination went to work......as a rule I dont do patterns, I cant follow them and dont really like being told what to do.... I have to "vision" it.....which usually happens around 3am...........

I had never done appliques before but decided to give it a try.......I broke out my scrap bin.....and started cutting....and sewing.......and cutting........and sewing..........about 40 hours later this is what I ended up with..

wow!!!!! a perfect square.... what do i do now....... I needed a border........a fence on the top and the bottom.....his name on the top?Huh?..... decided to do BENJAMIN'S FARM (not BEN but BENJAMIN)..... more cutting and sewing..........and changing thread colors to match every piece of fabric....

OKAY the front was done .... what to do on the back.....after a lot of trips to various fabric stores I finally found it.... and went to work again........

and there you go... I was done........

THANKS for looking ...... took a very long time ......but Benjamin loves it.... and sleeps with it all the time....
comments and suggestions would be appreciated.....

very cute! pattern schmatern. I too am a visionary and yes they occur usually @ 3 a.m. Does your creation process include a get-mad-at-it-and-swear phase like mine?

nice job on the applique. i'm still too chicken to try.

did you wrap the binding from the back?  i love that fabric.

i too don't work from patterns...well except the ones i scratch out on the back of and envelope using old broken crayons (does that count?)

and i am very glad to hear that others have a  get-mad-at-it-and-swear phase.

Seeking scraps! I'm in need of a variety of white on white scraps. (2.5inch square minimum) for pixel quilts. Have any? Swap for? PM me! Smiley

This is so cute! Good job!

(and I will say: I'm one of those anti-patterns, figure the idea out in my nursing notes, then get mad-swear phasers-had one of those last night! But you learn from those things... right?)

I am squeezing the Disney magic right now.

Your quilt is  very cute.  I especially like the mane on the horse.  Very effective use of fabric.

One is less than three.
