So I have decided to make all my Christmas presents this year. I started today with my a sketchbook cover for my niece. She loves to draw, but currently uses a lined notebook, so I thought I would make a place to put her pencils and a real sketchbook. I really want to give it to her now, but I will have to wait 5 months.  My inspiration was a mix between an Amy Butler pattern and a post from Lelyonna. Anyway on with the pictures:

The inside:


There is a faux button pocket for the eraser, and two diagnol pockets on the front for scratch paper:


I also put a pocket on the back cover for scratch paper and pocket for the back cover of the sketchbook to slip into:

i like this. I had a sketch/idea notebook as a kid. The thing was it looked like i regular notebook so if i left it out people would flip through it.  If this gets left out people will notice it's special and leave it be, like a journal.

haha i have the opposite problem, if it looks normal people leave it be and if it looks special, they're all over it

This is a really cute idea - I'm sure your niece will love it. Maybe next time you could add handles to it so it could be carried like a bag.
