I made these for the Spiderwick swap but I wanted to post these again...cause I am soooo stinkin proud of myself and have found a new love!  These are the first I have made of this kind and with these types of material...I usually have made bears with fur and have never painted before...here they are.....this is whispering willow the elf....she whispers to the sapling in the fall when they are still playing that they need to turn and sleep so they will grow...so you will find her in the forest.  I used the book Creative Cloth Doll making by Patti Medaris Culea, which I would recommend to anyone wanting to take on the hobby of creative cloth dolls...her dress and cape and hair are my own, out of my head.  This book is fabulous!                  the dragon was made with Simplicity 4063 ...the directions were basically unfollowable for me, so I put her together the way I thought best and it seemed to work!  the fabric was horrid to work with and I modified a tad....I didn't add the wire to help her stand...mistake...and I didn't use interfacing figuring the weight and stiffness of the fabric would work...mistake again.   I made the teeth out of femo and sewed them in....I think she's cute!  Thank's for looking and comments and critiques are welcomed as I find this is a new love and would love anything to make things better~!

I must say doll making is addictive. Welcome to the club! I loved seeing these on the Spiderwick Gallery. I'm always glad to see superior artists display their work! Whispering Willow is a beautiful doll. Is she the one that "should be entered at the fair?"

yup! she's the one!  thank you all for the wonderful comments!  it was so much fun and really hard to stop...I understand now when people say that the dolls kindof "talk" to you cause it's like it just kept popping in my head how she should be and what she should wear...as I was making her...man I can't wait to do another!~!!  I kinda want to make another Whispering Willow cause I love her so much...she needs a twin....what's funny is the lovely swap partner that received her is a twin! so that would be good Grin Grin

I love your doll, especially the hair and the dress.
I agree with you about the dragon pattern. I am only just learning to sew and have never actually followed a commercial pattern. I thought it looked simple enough that I'd try but I wasn't really thrilled with it and am in the middle of customizing a second one.

Whats super funny is I have the exact same dragon pattern. I even almost made one for you!(Ran out of time and stuffing!)

Now I'll have to make a cotton one for my lil guy, so he'll leave my dragon alone!

My dh was even impressed with Willow. Right now, she's sitting on my headboard!

awwwww!  I need to make her twin!  oh yes .....use cotton and wire and interfacing...the instructions suck but if you've made any stuffed animals you'll be able to figure it out...I want to make another but I think I'll draft up my own pattern.  that was what was going to run me late!!! she was a B*&%$#!!  but ........she arrived...hope she didn't bite coming out of the box? LOL

Nope, no biting, but she did look a startled when my Lil One squealed and grabbed her around the neck, then proceeded to fly her all over the living room!
