Dorothy in a Cornfield (pictures)

Someone on here recently posted their cross stitch pics of the Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion from an old Charles Craft booklet of Wizard of Oz patterns. I did the pic of Dorothy from this same booklet. The cross stitich pattern was taken from an old black and white still of the movie.

I stitched this for my brother a long time ago but I thought it was time to share it with the world.

Photos by my brother who has a better camera than I do. Also, the background in real life is a light blue with a nifty sheen to the cloth. I think the cloth was Charles Craft too. I don't know if they even make it anymore.

Thanks everyone. This took me about eighteen months, and that was when I was between jobs, so I'm pretty proud of it. Probably the biggest project I've finished to date.

Thanks so much! I was hoping you'd get to see this one since yours came out so beautifully and since I had really wanted to do the separate characters for him too, like the ones you did. But after Dorothy I kind of ran out of steam. My brother has a house full of Wizard of Oz collectables but I know he thinks this one is special since I made it for him. The only thing I changed, and I'm glad I did, was that they had this really weird orange color in her hair that clashed with everything, so I just chose the next lighter color.

I haven't framed mine yet, I have decided to do a gingham border to match Dorothy's dress. There is a blank spot in the middle of the characters, so I decided I'm going to embrioder "There's no place like home" in the middle. It will hang in our family room.
There is really no place like home is there!
