so i love everything ever made by craftster shesxautomatic ( check it out!:   http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=50528;sa=showTopics),
and she makes the most beautiful dresses from the pattern New Look 6557, so i decided i had to try it. it was my first time ever using a pattern, and it was actually way easier than i ever thought it would be. my mother has always discouraged me from using patterns because they are supposed to be too difficult for me or something, so anyways i have always had this irrational fear of patterns. but yeah, this was way easy. i love it. the only issue i had was sizing, because i have a small bust and thick waist, so i had to make the top a size smaller than the rest of the dress. but i love it! and i will wear it all the time.

the fabric i got from a creative reuse store, i got 4 yards of it for $2. i love it.

and look what my sewing machine did to this pin! i have never seen anything like it:

I like how the red pops against the fabric, really adds to the overall design.

The pin thing happens to me all the time!  Embarrassed And usually my needle breaks... So I started removing the pins just before they go under the sewing foot. Hope it won't happen again for you!

Nice dress by the way!  Cheesy

awww yay! i LOVE 6557, best pattern ever!  Grin
good call on the red trim!

and pins + sewing machines = bad! don't sew over pins, it'll mess up the timing on your machine and cost $$$ to fix Cry learned that one the hard way.

That looks really cute, I love the red trim.

I was totally inspired by her, too, haha.
I made a couple dresses from that pattern, I may end up posting them later.

Yep Me too. *sigh* But once you learn the truth just don't go back! lol

The dress is adorable! Patterns aren't really hard unless you are doing something mega detailed. And even then if you follow the steps carefully and slowly it will be fine. Smiley
Great job!

I've used that pattern about 100 times. Good choice.
Your dress looks lovely, obviously patterns are not too difficult for you.

You did great in making the dress. It looks great on you. I started sewing with patterns when I was 12, but things were different then. Don't be afraid of them. Do look at them carefully to see the number of pieces and how they go together to see if you are ready for the challenge. Doll dresses are easier than human and cheaper to make. I'm built a bit like you and my mom was able to help me figure out the alterations.
Better the pin than your finger. I use pins with big yellow heads so they are easy to see and pull out right as they go under the presser foot. If the pin or needle breaks it can go inside the machine and cause damage. So it's best to avoid stitching into them.

What a great pattern!  Very flattering!  God, I have so many pins that I've done that too.  I'm surprised one hasn't snapped and hit me in the eye.  It can really mess up your sewing machine though.  My mom almost had to get a new one because of going over too many pins.  Messed up the alignment or something.  Be careful!
