Tho' mine is without pocket, I am happy with the result...I took care to line it, in honor of my grandmother, a woman obsessed with lining as a sign of quality Smiley  And it's sturdy, let's hear it for twill.  I'd never sewed with it before but it was an easy, forgiving fabric to work with...

Now I'm going to go pore back over that messenger with gusset tutuorial by "gloriana"...which rocks...

Thanks much, here goes on the more pics tip! :

The construction was pretty much the same as gloriana's tutorial...I lined it with the same fabric as is on the outside...no topstitching because the fabric was nice and sturdy and didn't really need it, and I wanted my lines cleeeeean.  The army green part is twill, the flowered part is stretch cotton.

lovely!
I think that topstitch helps preventing fabric "stay in place" (my english is baaad), you can obtain it also with much pressing and ironing, but those effects are not permanent as for stitching.

Oh no, I'm a big fan of topstitching!  Definitely a sign of quality  Smiley  I usually top stitch, especially the handles, for strength (I really like it as a decorative element too though)...this fabric holds its shape really nicely though so I thought I'd like to see what would happen without it this time.  My friend eva took it (I made her one for herself) on a series of road/plane trips and it held up well...my bag has been to four western states!!!  Yeaaah!

Thank you all very much for the feedback... Smiley
