heres a picture of the completed cake- at my wedding.

I wanted an initials monogram cake top- and i saw gorgeous ones online for 100 $ apiece. I figured if i bought them- a 3 letter set would be between 150- 200 $.  heres an expensive version.

I bought the cheaper plastic silver version online. I think they are 5 or 6 inches. I think each one was about 6 bucks apiece- i searched for 3 days online to find the best deal- in a font that i didnt find totally hideous- or one that was so scrolly that the letters couldnt be read.

I put some swarovski crystals in various sizes on the top corners of each letter with only a few schmears of E600 glue. I also only put down enough glue for about 4 beads at a time. I wet a tooth pic and pic them up and place them down that way. I have a wax dop stick- but it was too big- and holds on too well to the beads sometimes.

i also wanted orchids cascading- with some bead sprigs poking out. I used some real Swarovski beads in Topaz, clear , and light colorado. (and some cheap acrylic brown beads also.)  I just hand twisted them in lil groups.  they were bicones and rounds.   here's the beads outside the cake...

a close up of some beads on the actual cake. ... I think i had about 7 sprigs of them all together. The Orchids and the wire weren't covered or coated. we just stabbed them in the cake- haha No one got sick- so i guess it was alright.

heres a pic of us actually cutting into it- were co cute!

and after the wedding my cake initials live on in my plants....

Beautiful cake! Is the whole thing covered in white chocolate shavings? It looks so luxurious!
Also, is your avatar from a TTD shoot?

I actually like your version a whole lot better than the expensive version.  Yours are more simple and elegant which goes nicely with the orchids while I think the expensive version is a lot of unnecesary bling

To answer your questions-
Yes- the whole cake is chocolate shavings. I actually didnt get any choice when it came to picking the cake out beforehand . I never got to see the size- i was just told it was around 8- 10 inches on the bottom layer and 6 in. on top- and it would be shaved chocolate with no decorations. This made it extremely diff to pick out decorations- and cake top. ( and we had to lug it all (the flowers and beads )with us and assemble there) Im still surprised how well planned out it looks.

Yes my avatar is from a Trash the dress shoot. I have lots more pictures. It was quite fun ! and freezing. If any one wants to see more... let me know...

If anyone wants to know where i got the orchids from overseas!?!- free shipping!!!! PM me.

It totally looks like you planned the cake out beforehand--why didn't you get to choose the cake? (destination wedding?)
And yes! Definitely post some TTD pics (maybe in the "show off your wedding pics" thread?)--I for one would love to see them, I am starting to really want a ttd shoot.
